How to calculate your blood alcohol content

The minimum age to consume alcohol is 21 in the USA and DUI-driving under the influence of alcohol is considered to be zero tolerance of crime. The reason why there is a limit on the consumption of alcohol is because it has a direct impact on the brain. As consumed alcohol, blood rushes to your traffic and goes directly to the brain. This could lead to a Fetal alcohol syndrome or even accidents caused by drunk driving. The result of the alcohol at different levels of B.A.C are different. Alcohol 0,08% makes a person lose balance, leading to the deterioration of memory and loss of self control. If the level reaches ¼ B.A.C a person reaching a very critical stage where, mental, physical and sensory functions is seriously impaired. It is very dangerous to cross the alcohol 0.25, as this can lead to coma and death.

Different methods for calculating B.A.C

1. breath alcohol testing
This test shall be conducted with the help of a device called a Breathalyzer. It is a device used for the determination of B.A.C by using a sample of breath. These are handheld devices that consumers can use on a regular basis. However, the results are not 100% accurate, as it calculates the B.A.C directly, but based on the content of alcohol found in the user's breath.

How it works
When he exhales a Breathalyzer, if there is no ethanol, it gets oxidized to acetic acid at the anode.

The chemical reaction is as follows:

OH (g)23CH CH +2O H (l)3? CH CO2H (l) + 4 h + (aq) + 4e-

Now, the oxygen of the atmosphere decreases during the descent.

O2(g) + 4 h + (aq) + 4e-? 22O H (l)

The reaction is oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid and water, which reads as follows:

OH (l)23CH CH2+ O (g)3CH ? CH3COOH (l)2H + O (l)

Finally, the electricity went off with a microprocessor and alcosensor provides approximate BAC.

Precision: it is not reliable, if the test takes place hours after consumption of alcohol.

2. saliva alcohol test
In this method of B.A.C test and an oral fluid sample is collected and tested.

How it works
A blood alcohol test saliva, it basically involves using a test kit. The kit contains a tipped cotton absorbent Strip. The band is then moistened to running it from the mouth. Once this is done, a colored line moves up depending on the quantity of alcohol consumed. However this is not the best technique for detecting and in some cases, the result remains only for a few hours and distortion products are readily available.

Precision: 98%, if the test is performed at the right time.

3. Sweat alcohol testing patches
In this test method, sweat patch suspect samples collected through ' Sweat testing packages ' and then tested. This is a very simple and a less wasteful for the detection of B.A.C.

How it works
Sweat patches are salt-impregnated absorbent pillows. Here a person must wear the patch up systematically for 2 weeks. The amount of ethanol that is collected about the patch indicates the amount of alcohol consumed.

Precision: 100%

4. Blood alcohol tests
This method of blood-alcohol test, a blood sample to measure the concentration of alcohol in the blood.

How it works
To count the percentage of alcohol gas chromatography is used for testing a blood sample. This is the most common method used by forensic scientists. The refund is to be a time consuming test method. Blood-alcohol test is one of the most expensive, but the best way to check your blood alcohol content. This is generally used if your saliva or your breathing tests show that the blood alcohol level over 0.08%.

Precision: 100%

5. urine blood alcohol tests
In this method, collect a sample of urine tests for alcohol and to control the amount of alcohol is present. This is very similar to a blood test. However, this test is not very reliable, as alcohol is consumed by a person will pass in the form of urine in just two hours. However, this is the most common test used by the Agency's traffic officers.

Precision: no credible

6. hair alcohol testing
This is the most recent technical test B.A.C. This test is used in situations where someone wants to detect the use of alcohol or drugs for a period of time.

How it works
In the practice of closely cut hair sample from the scalp and then tested. About 100-120 hair strands are required for this control. The follicle normally cover a period of 30-90 days, hence it can be used to check for the presence of alcohol and drugs, with precision. The follicle is not affected by foreign particles such as bleach or dye, unless shaved. This test, a series of reviews FAEE called fatty acid ethyl esters, and EtG or ethyl glucuronide EtG alcohol tests carried out to measure the amount of FAEE and EtG indicators. These genes are found only in the hair of a person, if he has consumed alcohol. The more alcohol is consumed in a person, most of the indicators will be present. This test can help in distinguishing clearly between non-culture, social, and heavy. This method is relatively more expensive and time-consuming than other tests.

Precision: 100%

B.A.C tests are used by employers and cops, and even parents and colleges to keep discipline in order to avoid risks to health and also from doctors for clinical purposes. These tests are also self used to monitor the B.A.C level. It is best to keep track of your own B.A.C level when you're outside your State, shall ensure that there is no breaking any law as the B.A.C boundaries vary from one Member State to another between 0.05 to 0.08. The punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs could be as serious as your license suspended or arrested along with a huge fine. So the next time you plan to get drunk to a tester B.A.C your Pocket!
